Mission Statement

The Human Dirofilariasis Research Institute, also known as HDRI.org is dedicated to finding methods for diagnostics and a cure for those people affected by this devastating disease. The following areas are our primary focus.

  • Community Outreach – We need to actively locate as many people suffering from this disease as possible. Research cannot even begin until there are sufficient numbers of people properly identified as having this disease. The only way to locate these people is if those who self identify as having formication are able to find us. This website is a tool to help raise awareness and to make that connection to those who may be otherwise suffering alone.
  • Community Support – Those people who do have this disease are dealing with both physical and emotional problems as a result. We dedicate time and resources to help these people interact and share information on how to deal with life. These people are currently suffering in silence, and we understand they need a voice, and to be heard.
  • Public Education – This occult disease in humans is completely unknown to the public. All medical references avoid even mentioning it, and when they do it is played down as if it is not a problem. The public must learn about the consequences of ignoring this horrible disease.
  • Research – The true research in human dirofilariasis pathology, clinical diagnostics, or treatment cannot even begin until there is an accepted diagnostic methodology. Finding a cure can’t happen unless there is a way to tell if the person has the disease. Clinical trials necessary for a cure cannot happen until you can round up enough people for a proper double blind study. Everything is predicated on first finding a test for this disease.
  • Facilitate Collaboration – Finding a test and a cure for any disease is difficult, and this one in particular requires multiple disciplines. Finding laboratories and practitioners with the required skill-set is paramount. While HDRI would like to quickly find a test and a cure it will likely take a large team of specialists to do so, but this outreach can be a start.
